Rams 2023 Season In Review

The Rams came off of their Super Bowl run in 2021 hoping to repeat their superior play. They came up short, going 5-12 for the year, out of the playoff hunt. The team started the season losing to the Buffalo Bills. They defeated the Falcons and Cardinals before losing to the 49ers. Top-ranked teams were tough for the Rams. They lost to the Buccaneers, Saints, Chiefs, and Seahawks. On December 19, the Rams lost to the Packers 24-12. They managed just one more victory for the season, defeating the Broncos 51-14. Matthew Stafford dealt with multiple injuries during the 2022 season. He suffered from a spinal cord injury late in the season and had two concussions earlier in the year. He'll be back in 2023.

Rams Top the NFL in 2021

The Rams topped the NFC West in 2021, with a 12-5 record. Oddly enough, throughout the regular season, the Rams lost to nearly all the teams that they would face in the playoffs. They lost to the Arizona Cardinals, San Francisco 49ers, and Packers. They did win when it counted the most. That would be in the postseason. In the divisional round, The Rams faced the Buccaneers, a team that won the Super Bowl in 2021. They sent the Tampa Bay Buccaneers packing and moved on to face the 49ers in the NFL Conference Championship game. The Rams scored 13 unanswered points in the fourth quarter and would move on to the Super Bowl. Led by Matthew Stafford, the Rams won Super Bowl 56 in a close game.

As for the upcoming 2022 season, the team will face what all world champions face. Every opponent would love to take down the champion. The Rams already know that Odell Beckham Jr. is planning on staying with the team. Darius Williams and Donte Deayon could move on, so the Rams will have to fill some key spots on defense. Cooper Kupp is locked in through 2022, so Stafford will have a key player to throw to. Stafford will become a free agent in 2023, so the Rams have this season to try and repeat their winning ways.

Rams Improve in 2020

In 2020, the Los Angeles Rams had a much better-than-expected season a year ago, finishing 11-5, which won them the NFC West. However, they did lose on Wild Card weekend to the Falcons. So what did the Rams do to build on their momentum from last year?

The Rams, except the Cleveland Browns, had one of the league’s busiest offseasons. Their first move was to release running back Lance Dunbar. Before free agency, they added former Pacers ace cover man Sam Shields, who sat out 2017 after recovering from concussions. It is a surprise that somebody cleared Shields to play again, after suffering four concussions during his time with the Packers. On the eve of free agency, the Rams made four big trades. First, they acquired cornerback Marcus Peters from the Chiefs. Next, they acquired cornerback Aqib Talib from the Broncos. For their third move of the day, they traded outside linebacker Robert Quinn to the Dolphins for draft choices. Finally, they traded linebacker Alec Ogletree to the Giants for draft choices. Their next move was to re-sign several players including center John Sullivan and defensive tackle Dominque Easley. In free agency, they signed defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh and linebacker Ramik Wilson. They also acquired wide receiver, Brandin Cooks, from the Patriots for draft choices.

For the draft, by the time the Rams were done wheeling and dealing they ended up with 11 selections. Let’s take a look at some of the highlights. Their first selection wasn’t until round three, and that was the offensive tackle, Joe Noteboom, from TCU. Their second choice was in round four and that was center Brian Allen from Michigan State. Running back John Kelly from Tennessee has a high ceiling as does defensive tackle Sebastian Joseph from Rutgers. The Rams went for quantity n this draft, and we will see how it plays out. The Rams made a ton of moves following a great year, and are one of the big favorites entering 2018.
