Angels-Tickets

The Angels have called three different buildings home. In 1961 they played in Los Angeles’s version of Wrigley Field. From 1962 to 1965 they played at Chavez Ravine. In 1966 they moved into their current home, Angel Stadium. Throughout their history the Angels have won their division nine times, the American League Pennant once, and the World Series once. That year was 2002, right around the time in which the Angels rose to their modern-day prominence.

The Angels currently boast one of baseball highest payrolls and have been known to make some big free agent signings in recent years. In recent years they have signed Albert Pujois, Josh Hamilton, and C.J. Wilson to major contracts. This is a far cry from what brought the Angels to prominence in 2002, which was their farm. Some people say part of the Angels problem in recent years is that they have forgotten who they are and what they are known for- strong farm system and great defensive play. They won the division a year ago, but many wonder if they can do it again with the return to 100% health for the Rangers and the improvement of the Seattle Mariners.

The Los Angeles Angels are currently stuck at a crossroads. As of this moment, the Angels stand at 37-52 on the season, good for last place in the American League West, and the third worst record overall in the AL. Many bad decisions in recent years have led to this point. The signings and overpays of the likes of Albert Pujols, Josh Hamilton, and C.J. Wilson have really hampered the finances of the team. They don't have a lot of financial flexibility in the near future, so their best course of action may be to begin to rebuild their franchise by trading baseball's best player, Mike Trout. The package they would have to get in return for Trout would have to be the biggest in baseball history, and the team he is going to would want to be able to hang on to Trout for quite some time as a result. The Yankees and Red Sox would be the two landing spots for him. 74-88 was the final overall record for the Angels in 2016. The team will have some rebuilding to do in 2017.

The Kansas City Royals are coming off an average, but disappointing 2016 season. They finished the year with a record of 81-81, good for third place in the American League Central division, but nowhere near postseason contention. It is hard to imagine 81-81 being disappointing for a franchise like the Royals, but that is the case for the 2014 and 2015 American League Champions.

The Royals had a rather quiet off season. Their “big” move, was trading Wade Davis to the Chicago Cubs for outfielder Jorje Soler. They also settled arbitration with first basemen Eric Hosmer and signed Danny Duffy to a five-year contract extension.

It is going to be really interesting to see what the Royals do at the trade deadline. If they are still in it, they might go in for one more ride, but if they are out of it, they have some very inviting trade targets who are their upcoming free agents- Eric Hosmer, Alcides Escobar, Mike Moustakas, etc. Stay tuned.
