Titans Show Potential in 2023

The 2023 Tennessee Titans had struggled during the season but showed signs of potential as the team came away with a few key victories over the many losses. The team finished the season with a record of 6-11 and that put them in fourth place in the AFC South Division. With a 27th-ranked offense (17.9 points per game) and 16th-ranked defense (21.6 points per game) coming away with a six-win season is a favorable outcome for the team.

Despite the lack of production on offense the team had strong but aging players. For 2024, the Titans will have to make serious decisions on who to keep and how to build the team in the draft. In 2023, the offense was powered by the future Hall of Fame duo of running back Derrick Henry and receiver DeAndre Hopkins. Henry racked up a league-leading 280 attempts where he rushed for 1167 yards and scored 12 touchdowns. Hopkins led the team with 75 receptions, 1057 yards and seven touchdowns. Aside from these star players, the remainder of the team had lackluster performances, including the quarterbacks. The team split the season between two quarterbacks as veteran quarterback Ryan Tannehill started the first half. After poor performance from Tannehill the task of leading was turned over to rookie Will Levis. Tannehill played in 10 games and threw for 1616 yards, four touchdowns, and seven interceptions. Levis played in nine games where he threw for 1808 yards, eight touchdowns, and four interceptions.

The defense performed better than the offense but struggled as a unit. No Titans defensive player received Pro Bowl or All-Pro mentions but still put out strong performers. Denico Autry led the team with 11.5 sacks, Azeez Al-Shaair led the team with 163 tackles, and Sean Murphy-Bunting recorded two interceptions and eight passes defended. Like the offense, the team struggled beyond these top performers.

2022 Titans Game Recap

The Titans went 0-3 to start the season before defeating the Colts on October 2. The team turned around their season, winning the next four games before losing to the Chiefs on November 6. From there, the team went 2-7 to finish out the year. That meant there would be no Wild Card game for the Titans. Derrick Henry continues to be the stand-out player for the team. He had 13 touchdowns and 1538 running yards in 2022. He averaged 4.8 yards per carry. Quarterback Malik Willis played in five games in 2022. Joshua Dobbs started as the Titans quarterback for two games. Once the titans settle on their starting quarterback for 2023, the team will look to improve on defense.

Titans 2021 Season Review

The Tennessee Titans won the AFC South division title. Their 12-5 record was tied for best in the AFC. The Titans defense was one of the strongest in the league. Derrick Henry’s injury in week eight was a big blow to a powerful weapon for the Titans. The week after Henry’s injury the team took down the L.A. Rams, Saints, and Texans. Losing only to the Steelers after the Henry injury showed that this team is more than one key player. The team found a way to win and went on to play against the Bengals in the NFL Divisional round.

In the free-agent market, the Titans picked up Robert Woods, a veteran wide receiver. The Titans gave up a seventh-round pick for Woods. Austin Hooper comes to Tennessee via Cleveland. Julio Jones was let go after one season. Rodger Saffold parted ways with the Titans, saving over 10 million in salary.
