The Spectrum Center first opened on October 21, 2005. At a cost of 260 million, the venue was built for great basketball. It seats 19,077 fans for a basketball games, and 14,100 for hockey events. The venue went under extensive renovations in 2016. This was to prepare for the NBA All-Star Game in 2017. 

The NCAA tournament has been held four times at the Spectrum Center. It's hosted the ACC Men's Basketball tournament, the Southern Conference tournament, and CIAA men's and women's basketball tournaments.

When some of the biggest names acts come to Charlotte, they book the Spectrum Center. It seats up to 18,504 fans for a standard stage concert setup. For theatre events, the venue can be configured to accommodate 4000-7000 attendees.
