At the same time though, the Rangers are poised to add to those all time totals this season. They finished the regular season this year with 113 points and won the Presidents' Trophy as a result. The Rangers defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins in round one and the Washington Capitals in round two. They now find themselves in the Eastern Conference Finals against the Tampa Bay Lightening. In addition, the Anaheim Ducks and the Chicago Blackhawks are left in the Western Conference Finals. The Rangers have as good of a chance as any team left of taking home the Stanley Cup.

The New York Rangers were founded way back in 1926, and are on of the NHL's oldest teams. Despite the long history and the numerous playoff appearances, the Rangers don't have much at the end of it all to show for it in the numbers department. Overall, the Rangers have won their division just eight times- most recently in 2015. The Rangers have won the Presidents' Trophy three times- 1992, 1994, and this season, 2015. The Rangers have also won the Eastern Conference just two times- 1994, and 2014. In addition, the Rangers have just four Stanley Cups to their name- 1928, 1933, 1940, and 1994. Their general manager is Glenn Sather and their head coach is Alain Vigneault.

The New York Rangers had a solid 2015-2016 season. They finished the season with 101 points, good for the fourth-best record in the Eastern Conference. Due to the unusual format of the Stanley Cup playoffs, the Rangers drew the second seeded Pittsburgh Penguins in round one. The Penguins won the series easily in five games, thus ending the Rangers season. New York entered the offseason without any major needs; so instead, they made a bunch of small moves. They extended numerous players and made several trades, such as trade defenseman Keith Yandle for a 6th round draft choice. Basically, management believed they didn't need to do much based on last season. So far this season, management has been right to bet on doing nothing. The Rangers are off to a good start this season, as they currently stand with 39 points, good for the third-best record in the Eastern Conference to this point.
