Minnesota 2024 Recap

The 2024 season was a testament to the resilience of the Minnesota Golden Gophers. Despite facing a grueling Big Ten schedule, the team rallied to finish the season with an overall record of 8–5. Their campaign was highlighted by several come-from-behind wins, a balanced offensive attack, and a stout defense that kept the Gophers competitive in every contest.

Max Brosmer led the team as their starting quarterback. Brosmer completed 268 passes for 2828 yards and 18 touchdowns. He ended the season with a 137.2 quarterback rating. His best game came against USC where he threw three touchdowns and went 15-19 in completed passes. 

Running back Marcus Major scored three touchdowns in 2024, and ran for 352 yards over 78 carries. Jaren Mangham ran for 123 yards on 19 carries. He averaged 6.5 yards per carry. 

Gophers 2022 Season In Review

The Gophers completed the 2022 season with an overall record of 9-4. The team was invited to the Pinstripe Bowl to face Syracuse. Their victory against the Badgers in the last game of the regular season determined their bowl game status. The team defeated Iowa, Northwestern, Nebraska, Rutgers, Michigan State, Colorado, Western Illinois, and New Mexico State. They lost to Purdue, Illinois, Penn State, and Iowa. In their bowl game appearance, they defeated Syracuse 28-20.

Quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis completed 60 of 111 passes, with three touchdowns and four interceptions. Tanner Morgan completed 107 of 160 passes, with nine touchdowns and five interceptions. He threw for 1382 yards. The Gophers relied on running back Mohamed Ibrahim for most of the season. Ibrahim scored 20 touchdowns and ran for 1665 yards.  

Gophers History in the Big Ten

In 2021, the Gophers went 9-4 for the season and got an invitation to play in a bowl game. They defeated West Virginia 18-6, in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl on 12/28/21. They finished the regular season strong, taking down the Badgers and Indiana in their two final Big Ten games on the schedule. All Gophers home games take place at the Huntington Bank Stadium. The team is part of the Big Ten conference, and they started playing in 1882. It would be another fourteen years before the start of the Big Ten conference. The team last won the National Championship in 1960. In the 1930s the Gophers were one of the best teams in college football. In that decade, they went 20-4-8. As a result of that success, they won the championship in 1934, 35, and 36. One of the longest rivalries in college football is the Gophers vs. Badgers. They have played against each other since 1890. The current win-loss record against Wisconsin stands at 61-62-8. 

Gophers in Bowl Games

The Golden Gophers have won the last five bowl games that they have been in. Going back to 2015, the team defeated Central Michigan in the Quick Lane Bowl. In 2016, they won the Holiday Bowl against Washington State. In 2018, the team went to the Quick Lane Bowl where they defeated Georgia Tech 34-10. In 2019, Minnesota made it to the Outback Bowl. They took down Auburn by a score of 31-24. The Guaranteed Rate Bowl featured the Gophers vs. West Virginia. They won that game 18-6.
